On 24 October, Billmanssalen in Gothenburg will host a one-day exhibition and performance programme featuring artists Linnea Hansander and Emma Amal Khanafer. Developed in relation to the space and its murals by Torsten Billman, the programme brings together performance, sound and text, engaging with the history and atmosphere of the former sailors’ apartment.
The public programme, open from 15.00 to 17.00, centres on a durational karaoke performance by Linnea Hansander, exploring karaoke as an extended performative act.
Following the public programme, a private, invitation-only salon hosted by Emma Amal Khanafer will take place from 18.00 to 21.00. Bringing together women working in Gothenburg’s arts and culture scene, the gathering creates a space for food, readings, conversation and exchange beyond formal institutional settings.
LINNEA HANSANDER (b. 1983) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Stockholm, working with installation, performance, video and sculpture. Drawing on theatre, popular culture and ritual, she explores grief, memory and human connection. Through playful, participatory works incorporating puppetry and performance, she brings together existential questions, humour and melancholy.
Hansander has exhibited at Index – The Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation in Stockholm, Färgfabriken and Gerlesborgs Konsthall, among other venues. Her solo exhibition TRAGEDY (I can’t live if living is without you) was presented at Index in 2022.
EMMA AMAL KHANAFER (b. 1992, Gothenburg) is a multidisciplinary artist working with sculpture, theatre and film. Her practice explores existential questions, religion and the absurdities of human nature. Influenced by literature, particularly Pär Lagerkvist, she combines philosophical and spiritual themes with symbolism and humour, balancing the profoundly serious with the absurdly comical.
Khanafer has exhibited at Galleri Thomassen and Allmänna Konsthall in Gothenburg, Boy Konsthall, Galleri Hedenius in Stockholm and Göteborgs Konsthall, among other venues. Her recent exhibitions include Förlåt att jag skrattade när du grät förut at Boy Konsthall (2026) and 15 minuter, en kvart at Galleri Thomassen (2025). In 2025, she was awarded the Våga Se Scholarship. Alongside her visual art practice, she has worked on productions at institutions including Dramaten, Stora Teatern, Backa Teatern, and the Gothenburg Opera.
DAFNE LEIDI (b. 1993, Gothenburg) is an independent curator and the founder of Allmänna Konsthall, a gallery established in 2023. Leidi’s practice combines
experimentation, collaboration, and fostering an artist-centred approach to exhibition-making. Recent projects include Craft! Masters exhibition (Galleri Konstfack, 2026), duo exhibition High Tide Low Flux pt. 1 & 2 together with Nora Söder (Gerlesborgs Konsthall & Galleri Thomassen, 2026).
