At SUPERMARKET 2026, the Swedish artist Moa-Matilda Nilsson presents a solo exhibition, Performative Masculinity. In a site-specific installation featuring textile works and activated through performance, the artist examines the essence of masculinity and performative aspects of gender. The exhibition depicts a so-called ‘guys’ room’, a space strongly coded by the aesthetics, tastes, and ideals associated with young men. The works look at how masculinity, within the private space of the home, is not only enacted through action but also constructed, organised, and legitimised through objects, spaces, and everyday rituals. In a room that is private yet sometimes exposed, masculinity emerges as something constructed, fragile, and in constant need of maintenance.
Moa-Matilda Nilsson (b. 1995, Umeå) is an artist based in Stockholm working with installation and performance. She holds a MFA in textile from Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design, Sweden.
Supermarket – Stockholm Independent Art Fair is an art fair for artist-run galleries and other artists’ initiatives. The goal is to provide a showcase of artist-run spaces from all over the world and create opportunities for new networks on the Swedish and international art scene. It is an art fair that strives to offer the visitor an experience rather than focusing on sales.
