At Flat Octopus, we value the opportunity to encounter artistic practices in the space where they unfold. Visiting artists in their studios offers a closer understanding of their processes, materials, and lines of inquiry, while opening up conversations that move between making and thinking.
We are pleased to continue our OPEN STUDIO series on March 28 at 15:00, with a visit to the studio of HELÉN SVENSSON.
The visit will include an introduction to the artist’s work, a guided walkthrough of the studio, and time for conversation and exchange. We will conclude the afternoon with informal discussions over drinks and snacks.
You are warmly invited to join us.

ABOUT OUR ARTIST-HOST
Helén Svensson is a Swedish visual artist based in Stockholm. She holds a Master of Fine Arts from the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm and has exhibited at institutions and galleries such as the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts, Galleri Duerr, Helix Art Space, Fullerstagård, Nichols Gallery, Pitzer College Art Galleries (Claremont), Art Copenhagen, Gallery Oksasenkatu 11 (Helsinki), and the Pritzlaff Conservation Center Gallery at the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden. She has worked closely with Ashik Zaman since 2023, is represented by Galleri Duerr, and is a member of the artist-run gallery ID:I.
Svensson works with images, objects, and installations rooted in everyday gestures and seemingly minor actions. Her practice emphasises method, material, and process over narrative. Through repetition, simplicity, and controlled systems, she explores the tension between unpredictability and structure. The work evolves through slow, methodical processes where traces of time, movement, and decision-making become visible. Positioned between the concrete and the abstract, her practice reflects on our impulse to organise, control, and make sense of our surroundings.
