The Swedish artist Susan Whitlow will spend two weeks starting on 17 April in our countryside residency in the north-east part of Småland near the coastline. Without the pressure of producing work, she will have the time and peace in the middle of the picturesque surroundings to reflect upon her work, as well as have the opportunity to present her practice to the local community. As a part of the residency, Susan will exhibit with us in our 2026-2027 exhibition programme
Susan Whitlow (b. 1989, Lund) is a visual artist based in Stockholm, and she is educated at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. Her practice is based on exhibition work and public decoration assignments. Her works have previously been shown at Södertälje konsthall, Gustav III’s Museum of Antiquities, Liljevalchs Konsthall and Körsbärsgården Konsthall.
In her practice, Whitlow employs collage, painting and drawing. Her work revolves around experimenting with materials and eye-tricking illusions in large-scale formats. A reflection on the possibilities and limitations of paper recurs in her work.
Flat Octopus artist-in-residency programme is managed by Alice Máselníková.
